David Wolf, Associate Professor, receives national honor.

David Wolf, UCC Automotive Technology Instructor, was selected as the Motor Age Training/Automotive Service Excellence Master L1 Technician of the Year based on his outstanding performance on the ASE tests recently taken. David is one of only 47 technicians from across the country to receive this award. ASE is the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, a professional certification group, and Motor Age is the nation's oldest automotive trade publication, devoted to providing the resources shop owners and techs find beneficial to enhancing their base of knowledge and car success.

David’s reaction to receiving this honor, “I was definitely surprised when I heard about this award. Thank you to both Motor Age and ASE for this honor. I feel that ASE certification is an important assessment tool that ensures technicians have the depth of knowledge to repair today’s vehicles. Both ASE and the UCC Automotive Program provide certification which improves employment opportunities and success for our students”.

Reflecting on how this award reminds students of the value of hard work and dedication to a goal, David said, “We always encourage our UCC automotive students to take ASE certification tests, but sometimes find they are reluctant to do so due to lack of confidence and costs. I think achieving this award will increase student appreciation for instructor credibility and help demonstrate the value of ASE certifications by showing students what the possibilities are with ASE and hard work.”

According to the ASE, the results of a number of scientific studies conducted over a 14-year period yielded compelling evidence that ASE Certified automotive professionals exhibit improved performance in several key areas; and overall, the certified technicians show 40% greater productivity than the non-certified group”. Knowing that David applies these same standards to his role as an Automotive Technology Instructor at UCC ensures that graduates of the program continue to be highly sought after professionals with excellent prospects for career placement.
